THE PROBLEM


We love coffee. We love drinking delicious coffee and enjoy all the aspects of a great cup. We also love our planet and like many people around the world are concerned about its sustainability. In coffee farming, the fruit of coffee is
considered a byproduct with roughly 91% ending up as landfill, releasing greenhouse gas emissions and polluting local ecosystems.

Roughly translated that's about 20 billion KG's of coffee byproduct left to rot each year or 16.6 million tonnes of CO2 emissions. 

So, what impact does that have on our planet?

Well, the more carbon that's in the atmosphere, the faster our planet will warm and the more communities at the forefront of this change will feel this climate impact. The longevity of growing great quality coffee, the fertility of the soil, the future of clean rivers for communities and the sustainability of coffee itself is all impacted!

The good news is that change is happening, it's happening in almost every industry including in coffee, where a change in the utilisation & commercialisation of the byproduct is leading to security and sustainability for coffee farmers and pickers.

OUR IMPACT

 
I Am Grounded (IAG) are an innovation first CPG company focused on changing the way we think about coffee. 

We work with food scientists and farmers in Colombia on a special project that utilises the fruit and pulp.

IAG aim to make a tangible impact on the sustainability of coffee farming as well as aid in empowering coffee growing communities to commercialise their upcycled goodness.

We have a plan to create impactful snacks that are not only healthy and all natural but also purpose driven. First, we aim to RETHINK coffee by showcasing the fruit and shedding light on byproducts.

 Next, we work to UPCYCLE the coffee fruit into a antioxidant-packed concentrate to save the fruit from waste & contaminating river systems.

EMPOWER

And finally, we EMPOWER people along the coffee chain such as farmers, buyers, roasters, cafes and coffee drinkers to start conversations around commercialisng the byproducts of coffee.

Without a market, farmers are not incentivised to upcycle, that's why we must all do our part to rethink and upcycle in order to empower.

Every gram of fruit upcycled makes a difference. 
Since March 2019, I Am Grounded have upcycled just over 33,000 kilos of coffee fruit from Colombia.

OUR PURPOSE

Our main goal is to drive this purpose into action by offsetting waste and also giving back to coffee growing communities.

We aim to do this via quarterly initiatives and partnerships that help us to give back to farmers both in Colombia and impact driven coffee businesses here in Australia.
